The humble kitchen clock is an average household item but it sometimes has significance in our lives such as memories of watching the clock for a special event to start or counting down the time to New Year.   I remember many a time when I was young watching our kitchen clock waiting for a date to arrive, and at other times for the Sunday Lunch to come out of the oven.

My family home has had many kitchen clocks but all but one was an analogue clock and frankly I prefer them to digital any day.  The most memorable was a lime green frying pan shaped clock  we had in the 70s.  I wish I had a picture of it to share with you but it is long gone now. I also remember when I was first married and we lived in a Unit with the people above us owning a cuckoo kitchen clock.  Well that took us about a month to get used to and these memories you never forget (or the lost sleep).

If it is going to be purely ornamental and ill be mainly decorative then the theme of the kitchen will be very important when choosing such a kitchen clock.  Also unusual or unique clocks will be good choices.

If you will be referring to your kitchen clock all day then choices like digital clocks, mantle clocks with alarms, clocks with large clear faces would be good choices.

I spend a lot of time in my kitchen when I am at home and I also refer to it often so I have it placed high on the wall and it has a large face which is easy to read while walking from one room to another.  I chose a style which suited my family style kitchen with it's wooden floors.  It is the wooden pendulum clock pictured on this post.

If my kitchen was ultra modern or eclectic then I would pick a a different type of kitchen clock that would blend with the style and theme of that kitchen.

Look around at other kitchens especially those in the style you like and then pick your kitchen clock to compliment your needs and the style you are looking for.

There are so many choices and if you have a themed kitchen you can get clocks to fit that theme.  For example if you have a nautical theme there are boating, ships, tides and barometer clocks. These make a statement in your kitchen and can be a focal point.

Some of the cuckoo clocks have various animals like horses, monkeys, chickens dogs, and cows and one I saw that was different had an elephant.  Now they are unique and different types of wall clocks for the kitchen.

What I like too are the novelty clocks that have brand names or sport logos like Coca Cola or beer themed like ones from Millers and Fosters or even your favorite sports team.  I probably wouldn't use them in the kitchen but then everyone's tastes are different.

My favorite kitchen novelty clock though are the really modern ones in chrome, wire and ceramic, glass, aluminum and silver.  These are usually very modern styles and the materials lend themselves to more artistic shapes.
