An Emperor clock or grandfather clock is one of the oldest types of clocks. An emperor clock comes with a long cabinet with a swinging pendulum, anchor and hanging weights. This floor clock can sometimes have a huge glass facade, a feature that lets you display your souvenir items. It can be cable, quartz-driven, or chain, and made of materials like beech, oak, pine, mahogany, and cheery woods. An Emperor grandfather clock often comes with an ornamental crowns such as; bonnet, split pediment, federal or flat top designs, that give the clock personality and character.

The humble kitchen clock is an average household item but it sometimes has significance in our lives such as memories of watching the clock for a special event to start or counting down the time to New Year.   I remember many a time when I was young watching our kitchen clock waiting for a date to arrive, and at other times for the Sunday Lunch to come out of the oven.

My family home has had many kitchen clocks but all but one was an analogue clock and frankly I prefer them to digital any day.  The most memorable was a lime green frying pan shaped clock  we had in the 70s.  I wish I had a picture of it to share with you but it is long gone now. I also remember when I was first married and we lived in a Unit with the people above us owning a cuckoo kitchen clock.  Well that took us about a month to get used to and these memories you never forget (or the lost sleep).

Most beer clocks are battery operated except for some like the neon ones  (which can be quite bright for inside the home) but these really don't use as much electricity as you would think, probably only as much as a 75 watt globe so if you really want a clock to stand out the neon clocks are for you.  You can even get your beer clock personalized with your name (which I think looks good in a workshop) or buy ones with your favorite beer brand such as Corona, Miller, Budweiser or Tooheys.

Beer clocks make an interesting addition to your home  and I was a bit surprised at the variety of beer clocks available especially on eBay so you should find one you like and that will look good on your wall.

When I was deciding on houses to live in then the most important room for me was the kitchen.  It had to be big enough, had a workable design and was pleasing to the eye.  The only exception is my current house but I already had plans in my head to renovate the small pokey impractical kitchen into something twice the size, more functional and pleasing.

Decorating my kitchen was a pleasure, and of course I already had an idea of what I wanted for the kitchen to look like.   I have a house that is as old as me so an ultra modern kitchen would not have suited.  I think I have chosen well to suit my old house.  I would've liked a bigger pantry but unfortunately there was not enough room.  This is the only thing now I would change if I could.  My kitchen is pictured on this post and I would love to hear about your own kitchen.  Also note that that I chose an analog pendulum clock for the wall.

I love to cook even though I work full time so most of my cooking is done on the weekend.  In winter you will find me cooking a crock pot meal and have my breadmaker cooking a large french load to go with it.  This Christmas I will be also spending more time in my kitchen and I love to make s0me of my own presents.  Cookies, cakes and slices are my favorites which I will wrap and present in decorative boxes and tins.

I remember when my son was young he had difficulty telling the time especially so on an analog clock and they didn't teach him this skill at school.  The alarm clocks and other clocks on electronic goods were all digital at home at the time.

I bought him an analog clock for the wall and I taught him how to read the time on that.  We practiced, and so after awhile he didn't need to confirm with me and was confident reading the time for himself.

That Christmas I bought him his first watch and he was excited that he could use it, and wear it to school, and others in his class still hadn't learned to use or wear one.

A children's wall clock is a good decorative addition to your child's room.  There are so many styles, colors and themes to choose from in wall clocks and some of the best prices are from eBay.

Wall clocks make good presents for children at Christmas and for their birthdays.  It is helpful though to know what color or theme their bedroom or playroom is though before buying a clock for them.

Hotels usually have clocks but aren't always easy to adjust or keep good time.  I don't usually take my cell phone but when I do I use that as a back up alarm to my travel clock.  My clock is a digital one but they come in analogue as well.  I recommend one that has a back light so you can read it in the dark.

Space is tight in my suitcase so my alarm clock is very small but still very reliable and effective. You can get models that fold up and form a stand so you can see the clock easier and ones that are very slim so they don't take up much space.  My travel clock is battery operated and you will find most are, so I do take back up batteries just in case, but so far haven't needed them.

Travel clocks can also have other features like calculators, a torch (to help you get to the bathroom), a currency converter and a calendar.  I have never needed those features as long as it had an alarm and a snooze button I was OK.

Travel clocks are inexpensive and on eBay you can get a bargain from only a dollar or two.  Be sure to look at the features that you need and the size of the clock before bidding.  If you want reliability and accuracy I probably wouldn't buy a second hand vintage clock to use for travel.

You wont have to rely on a wake up call that never comes if you carry your own travel clock with you.  It is only a small investment but I can assure you that you will take it on every vacation you go on both business and pleasure.
